Fish Report for 8-3-2013
Convict Lake & Creek continues with good fishing

Hello Convict Lake fishing report followers!
It's been two weeks and the report is back. I had a great back country trip. I fished a few excellent lakes and landed some nice back country Brookies (see Photo #3). I also hooked a few small Goldens. But nothing compares to the large rainbows that come out of Convict Lake. Talking with the guys at the marina, it seems the lake and the creek has continued to fish well, even with our warm summer days.
Pictured Above: John Laney with a great catch out of Convict Lake. John was using a night crawler and was fishing the South Shore when he landed this beautiful 2 pound and 1 ounce rainbow.

Catch of the Week: Congratulations to Gary Dohman, Photo #1 of San Clemente, CA who landed a stout 3 pound and 4 ounce rainbow. Steve hooked this toad with a Needlefish while trolling. Way to go Gary!
Other Notable catches this week:
Jackson Norris, Photo #2 of Valley Center, CA caught his first fish while visiting Convict Lake. Jackson was using Powerbait while fishing at the Inlet. Great Job Jackson!!
Michael & Marley Dunford of Rancho Cucamonga,CA ended a good at the lake with a 6 fish stringer. They were using Powerbait and were fishing at the South Shore.
Tactics/Bait: As we enter the hot August days, the fish will move deeper so you are going to have to follow suit. The most successful Powerbait colors were orange and salmon peach. Red/gold Thomas Bouyants, Power Worms and Powerbait Mice Tails were also very productive. The Inlet and the South Shore were the hot spots this week. As stated in an earlier report, you can never go wrong with inflated night crawlers. Set up your rod with about a 3 foot leader (2-3 lb) and try to fish adjacent to the shelf. Use a clear bobber filled with water in order to be stealthier. The creek has also been fishing well and was stock this week. Other locations to try are the North Shore, Jetty, Outlet, West Shore, Creek, Handicap Pier and Hangman's Tree.
Here is a list of other baits/lures that can be productive: Trout Teasers, green or brown Marvel Fly Lures, Panther Martin, NeedleFish, Thomas Bouyants, Green Wooly Booger and Lip RIpperz Hatchery Dust on Powerbait.
Other Resources: View our Convict Lake Fishing Map and Fishing Rig Suggestion brochures. Both brochures are available in the General Store.
Derby News: JUST ONE MONTH AWAY!!! The Ambush at the Lake Fishing Derby will be starting on Monday, September 2nd for a chance to win $6,000 in Resort Prizes! Also mark your calendars for the Morrison's Cash Bonus Weekend on November 1-3. $2000 in cash prizes.
Weather: Still dealing with some smoke from the Aspen fire which is 55% contained as of 8/3. The forecast for next week has the highs in the mid-70's. Lows in the high-40's. There is always the potential for afternoon thunderstorms during the summer months. Here is the National Weather Service link that is usually quite accurate: 7-Day Forecast Convict Lake.
Sunrise - Sunset: Sunrise this week 6:01am - 6:06am and Sunset 8:03pm - 7:57pm.
Stocking: DFG stocked the lake on July 31th and the creek on the week of July 29th. Alpers were stocked on July 25th.
